Paradise Found

Sometimes finding your idyllic home site is simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time. This was certainly the case for Lake Macquarie couple Mark and Naomi, who discovered their idyllic location virtually in their own familiar recreational playground.

Being keen water enthusiasts, they would boat up Lake Macquarie to a quiet inlet creek at Valentine to visit Mark’s father, and moor at a neighbour’s wharf (with permission of course).

Backtrack 3 ½ years, when the property ownership changed.

“We knew the area well and that this particular property had been on and off the market for some time,” recalled Naomi. Being well acquainted with the owners, a retired couple, they made approaches to purchase the property and finally their offer was accepted.

“We were thinking of the years ahead when we appointed Troy Zwart of Lewis + Zwart Architecture to design a feasible floor plan for the renovation of the house,” said Naomi. “We wanted a design to suit our future retirement, as this is going to be our ‘forever’ house.”

Right from the start, this renovation was about streetscape and lifestyle – a free-flowing level floor plan with room to informally entertain.

They wanted an engaging, well-presented house that was aligned to their Sheppards Creek lifestyle of boats, surrounded by good neighbours and outdoor entertaining. Lewis + Zwart Architecture delivered this in spades…
