Newcastle City Triathlon
Sunday, February 23
The 27th annual Sparke Helmore Newcastle City Triathlon is on again, offering one of the most picturesque courses in Australia. The event will be staged from the Queens Wharf area on Newcastle Harbour, and includes three different races to allow entrants of all skill and fitness levels to take part, with the opportunity to compete as an individual or a member of a two to three person relay team.
The Corporate/Enticer Triathlon is ideal for short course specialists or novice triathletes including businesses and features a 300m swim, 14km cycle and 2.5km run. The Sprint Distance Triathlon is ideal for those who have trained for the event or relay participants, with a 740m swim, 22km cycle and 5km run while the Standard/Olympic Triathlon is for serious triathletes, with relay teams also welcome. The event also supports The Lauren Parker Foundation, which was established for the local athlete after she sustained serious spinal cord injuries following a shock bike accident in 2017. Lauren has overcome numerous challenges to win bronze in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Paratriathlon and is now focussed on becoming World Champion in 2019 and then qualifying for the 2020 Paralympics in Japan.
