Timeless Textiles: new exhibition

There are so many hidden gems in Newcastle and the wider Hunter region, and Australia’s only art gallery dedicated to fibre art, Timeless Textiles, is certainly one of them.

Featuring works by Sharon Peoples, a new exhibition will open on 5 August at Timeless Textiles. It will explore the role of birds in our gardens – both the physical garden spaces as well as the secret gardens of our hearts and minds.

Birds have often been seen as an intermediary between natural/ physical and spiritual realms. Perhaps this is because they are as comfortable in the air as they are in the water and on land, affinities which only emphasize our own limitations. This work extends my interest inĀ Hortus Conclusus, the enclosed garden. I have used this as a metaphor for the internal space that grows wild, untamed, overblown, yet finding its own balance. Using birds brings a new perspective to that private internal garden for me.
