Newcastle Music Festival

30 July – 15 August – Making a much anticipated return with an all-Australian cast, the Newcastle Music Festival will open on 30 July with a solo piano recital by Tamara-Anna Cislowska, one of Australia’s finest pianists and a presenter of the ABC Classic program Duet, at Adamstown Uniting Church.

The two week program is packed with highlights. Grace Knight will perform evergreen jazz favourites. Andrew Blanch will host a guitar masterclass and perform an exquisite repertoire for guitar and harp with harpist Emily Granger and Newcastle’s own Gully Line Quartet. Flamenco guitarist Paco Lara will set your heart racing and world renowned mezzo-soprano Deborah Humble will show her mastery in Elgar’s Sea Pictures accompanied by some of Newcastle’s best string players. The world premiere of Toasting Mother Earth by Newcastle composer Ross Fiddes will feature brilliant soprano Anna Fraser accompanied by Michael Bell. The Festival concludes with Fauré’s sublime Requiem, and a concerto by Poulenc, with performances by Christ Church Camerata, Peter Guy (organ), and the Christ Church Cathedral Choir under the direction of David Banney.
