Spring back to trust
Escaping the AI Slop and Rediscovering Human Connection.
Story Rob Dawson
As spring unfolds, bringing with not just nature that’s in need of renewal.
The Internet, once a place of discovery and connection, is now saturated with what can only be described as AI slop: endless streams of autogenerated content, synthetic reviews, and shallow engagement. From fake product recommendations to AI-written blog posts that say everything but somehow nothing, the web is becoming a landfill of untrustworthy information.
And people are noticing.
THE RISE OF DIGITAL SKEPTICISM
We’re entering a new season. Not just meteorologically, but also socially. The bloom of skepticism is here. Consumers, clients, and colleagues are beginning to question what’s real online. Is that article written by a person or a bot? Is that testimonial genuine or fabricated? Is that advice trustworthy or just algorithmic filler?
SPRING AS A METAPHOR FOR RECONNECTION
Spring is a time for clearing out the clutter. It’s when we open windows, clean out garages, and refresh our wardrobes. In the same way, we’re starting to spring clean our digital habits such as cutting back on screen time, unsubscribing from AI-heavy feeds, and seeking out real conversations.
I’m seeing this shift firsthand. Clients are asking for more face-to-face meetings, more human-led workshops, and more authentic engagement. The pendulum is swinging back toward trust, and trust is only built in person.
WHY FACE TO FACE MATTERS MORE THAN EVER
In a world where AI can mimic tone, style, and even emotion, authenticity becomes a premium. Face to face interactions offer something AI can’t replicate. Think eye contact, nuance, spontaneity, and the subtle cues that build real relationships.
For us, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a strategy session, a tech onboarding, or a community event, the value of being in the room physically is growing.
BUT DOES AI HAVE A PLACE THIS SPRING?
This is where a thoughtful approach to AI comes in. When harnessed responsibly, AI can enhance our lives by handling repetitive tasks, gathering insights from complex data, and streamlining processes that free us to focus on what matters most: our relationships and creativity. The key is to deploy AI as a supportive tool, automating the background work so people can be fully present in the moments that count: brainstorming with the team, mentoring colleagues, or connecting with clients.
Ethical use of AI means prioritising transparency, consent, and the preservation of genuine human interaction at every turn. If we keep these principles at the core, technology becomes an enabler of deeper trust, not a barrier to it.
A CALL TO SPRING FORWARD
So as the flowers bloom and the days grow longer, let’s take a moment to reflect. Maybe the answer to end AI slop isn’t more filters or smarter algorithms. Maybe it’s less screen, more scene. Less automation, more conversation. Less content, more connection.
Let’s spring back the trust this spring.
