El Chapos

Chapos Mexican Taqueria brought a little colour and a lot of flavour to Maitland CBD when it opened last June and it’s been making (um, Mexican) waves since, giving the locals everything from burritos to cocktails. Owners John and Lani Elsley were inspired to kick start the venture after falling in love with all things Mexican on their honeymoon. The food and drinks menu includes jalapeno poppers, nachos, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, churros with chocolate dipping sauce, Mexican beers, house made Sangria and margaritas. There’s a junior menu for Lil Chapos, 12 years and under, and Grande servings for the extra hungry. Service is friendly, approachable and efficient. It’s a great place for a midweek feed with friends, a family dinner or a larger celebration: groups of 40 plus are catered for in the fantastic upstairs space. Dust off the sombrero and head on down – you won’t be disappointed.

Open Sunday to Thursday from 11.30am to 9.30pm and Saturday and Sunday until late.
