What’s Happening in the Valley
CELEBRATING 35 YEARS
Hunter Valley Boutique Wine Show
The Hunter Valley Boutique Wine Show recently marked its 35th anniversary, continuing its tradition of showcasing the exceptional talents of small-scale winemakers in the region. Held annually, the event has evolved from its humble beginnings in 1989, when just eleven wineries participated, to a prestigious competition that now features over 350 wines from boutique producers.
This year’s show, judged by a panel led by renowned winemaker Neil McGuigan, highlighted the diversity and quality of wines produced in the Hunter Valley. The event’s revitalised format included the Show Celebration Lunch at the grand Maitland Town Hall, offering attendees the opportunity to taste award-winning wines, enjoy gourmet cuisine, and celebrate the craftsmanship of local winemakers.
The 2025 show featured several standout winners, including Colvin Wines’ 2014 Semillon, which received the Karl Stockhausen Commemorative Trophy for Best White Wine, and Tintilla Estate Wines’ 2023 Reserve Shiraz, awarded the Ray Healey Trophy for Best Red Wine. Thomas Wines was recognised as the Most Successful Boutique Exhibitor, reflecting its consistent excellence across various categories.
As the Hunter Valley Boutique Wine Show continues to celebrate the region’s rich winemaking heritage, it remains a testament to the passion and dedication of its boutique producers, offering wine enthusiasts a unique opportunity to experience the best of the valley’s wines.
