Newcastle – The Ship Inn
What a year to open a bar! Well, the team behind The Falcon in Newcastle East have braved the prevailing winds and come out sailing with their new venture – The Ship Inn. Taking over the site vacated by Reserve Wine Bar, it has returned to its roots – the original Ship Inn was opened on-site in 1846.
Today they’ve adopted a gastropub vibe – rich timber interiors, ambient lighting and wide booths. You’ll find craft beer on tap, cocktails and an interesting wine list, along with a traditional menu with all the dishes a salty sea dog could wish for: grilled cheese; schnitzels; parmigiana; cottage pie; sandwiches; burgers and more. The seafood sanga with crab and prawn salad on a toasted buttery roll is bound to be a summer favourite, as are the beer battered fish and chips with mushy miso peas. Injecting some more life into the CBD, The Ship Inn is a great place to drop anchor after work and will be sure to become part of the history of the city.
Open Tues–Sat 11am–11pm, Sundays 11am–10pm
