We’re Hiring | Deputy Editor

Hunter & Coastal Lifestyle and Newcastle Weekly are looking for a driven journalist to join our team as Deputy Editor, with a pathway to transition into the role of Editor within the next four to six months.

This is a rare opportunity for a journalist who understands the importance of local media, has strong editorial judgement, and is ready to lead a busy editorial team across print, digital, social and video.

Behind both publications is Supply Media, a marketing and creative agency that has played a central role in the growth and evolution of the business over the past four years.

This agency mindset sits at the heart of how Newcastle Weekly and Hunter & Coastal Lifestyle have strengthened their brands, expanded their audiences and created new opportunities across print, digital, social, events, content and commercial partnerships.

The successful applicant will be joining more than a traditional newsroom. They will be part of a forward-thinking local media business where editorial, creative strategy, community and commerciality work together to build strong, trusted and highly engaged local brands.

Newcastle Weekly is a free independent news publication, proudly serving the Hunter Region with trusted local news, sport, business, property, events and community storytelling.

Hunter & Coastal Lifestyle is our premium lifestyle masthead, celebrating the people, places, homes, food, wine and experiences that shape life across Newcastle, the Hunter and surrounding regions.

We are looking for someone who can not only write and edit strong local stories, but also help shape the editorial direction of both brands as we continue for further growth. Digital storytelling will form a significant part of our growth plans, someone must have a genuine interest in how publications tell stories across print, online, social and video.

The right person will be excited by the opportunity to help develop new ways to engage audiences while maintaining the quality, trust and local connection that sit at the heart of Newcastle Weekly and Hunter & Coastal Lifestyle.

Initially, this role will support the current editorial structure, with a planned transition into the full-time Editor position within four to six months.

We’re looking for someone who is commercially driven, organised, calm under deadline pressure and passionate about local storytelling, premium lifestyle content and regional media.
