The House of WOW
When Louise Christensen started Worn Out Wares in 2004, she had no idea it
would grow into a multi-generational family affair.
Fast forward 21 years and daughters Anna, Lili and Meg in their thriving café, retail and floristry business.
Café manager, Meg Christensen says, “Up until recently, our grandparents played a huge part in the shop too, with my Nan maintaining all the plants and my Pop being the handy man. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
In the beginning, Louise’s vision was to create a shop with all the things she loves. Starting off with vintage homewares, flowers and simple cakes and coffee, WOW has since grown into a shopping destination for locals and visitors alike.
“We have regulars from all over the state that visit our space when passing
through. People are drawn to us for our unique space, family feel, customer service and amazing food and flowers,” says Meg.
With a high tea offering, as well as seasonal workshops, Louise says that their ethos has always been to give their customers an experience they haven’t had elsewhere.
The café menu features seasonal, local produce and is open for breakfast, lunch and sweets. The honey used in the kitchen is harvested from Louise’s own Flow Hive.
The retail space is a blend of brands like Leif, Kollab and Gentle Habits mixed with vintage character pieces and the flower business is booming for weddings, deliveries and walk-ins.
“People are drawn to us for our unique space, family feel, customer service and amazing food and flowers”
Louise says, “Our flowers bring freshness and life to the store. We like to make sure we cater for all budgets, offering small posies through to large arrangements. Our wedding flowers have won numerous awards and featured in many articles and magazines.”
Beyond the awards – and there are many – Louise says it’s the sense of family that makes it all worthwhile.
“We absolutely love our team. Some of our team members have been with us for 21 years. You can feel the sense of family that spills over,” she says.
