New Horizons
After living on seventeen acres in the picturesque Jilliby valley for twenty-three years on the Central Coast hinterland, Cathy and Ken decided to opt for a sea change for their retirement years.
By recommendation they contacted Lake Macquarie home designer Melanie Symington of Seaside Homes and briefed her on their ideas. After a couple of initial concept plans the final design came together very easily, as Melanie was able to foresee exactly the home design the couple were seeking.
The site was cliff-top, oceanfront land and north facing, with fabulous views extending along the coastline. Before building, an existing old cottage was definitely a “knock down”, so it was removed, leaving a blank canvas to commence the build.
“The priority was to achieve a design that worked for the couple when living by themselves, but which could accommodate their visitors with their own living space in real comfort,” said Melanie.
It was decided that the home would be kept on a more modest scale, with only two guest suites but with a separate apartment included to allow for family or guests who were staying with them for longer periods…
