A Perfect Match
For wine lovers and connoisseurs, the name Margan is now synonymous with the Hunter Valley, thanks to their fine wines, spectacular cellar door and award-winning restaurant.
To reach this career pinnacle, Andrew and Lisa Margan, had humble beginnings. The journey has been long, often challenging, and has taken them across the globe and home again. Both have a shared passion for quality, excellence and good old-fashioned hard work.
It was at a popular student haunt in 1987 when Lisa and Andrew’s eyes first met across a crowded room. Andrew was a mature-age student of 25 on his second science degree in Sydney, and Lisa was a 19-year-old student studying Applied Science and Food Technology.
After graduating and teaching in Sydney, Lisa married winemaker Andrew and made the move to base herself with him in the Hunter Valley. She decided on a career change and soon began an apprenticeship with acclaimed French chef, Robert Molines. Andrew was working at the iconic Tyrrell’s Wines, headed by winemaking legend Murray Tyrrell.
Lisa said, “Murray was a bit like a second Dad to Andrew. He grew up on a property next door to the Tyrrells and worked for Murray during school holidays and on weekends for many years.
