A Dual Winner
Building and selling homes has been a lifelong interest for one Western Lake Macquarie resident since he started work as an apprentice electrician after leaving school.
By the time he was eighteen-years-old, he had saved for his first block of land and was the owner-builder of his first home.
Now, together with his wife Alicia, they have built several homes and have just completed an eighth residence which became a double-barrel build – not one but two homes on two adjoining blocks.
The couple were living in their large rural property nearby in the same suburb with their two teenage children and all were keen water enthusiasts.
They decided to acquire a narrow block of land on the lake waterfront, with an idea to build just a basic weekender – more a modern-styled extended garage where they could retreat to and enjoy their water sports of boating, jet-skiing, fishing and catamaran sailing.
Wanting to build a modern design, they contacted local home designer Melanie Symington of Seaside Homes. The site faced north to the lake and had a significant fall which added to the challenges faced by the designer.
