Stripped back to the bare bones, this rebuilt 50s home, located in one of Merewether’s most highly sought locations, is reminiscent of the traditional holiday home many have encountered in their childhood, yet it is appointed with all the latest in technology and high-end finishes.
It’s almost a straight line from this beach home’s front door to the spa pool in the rear patio, destined to be one of the most traversed paths for holidaymakers. Even though the surf beach is within skipping distance herein Newcastle’s premier beachside suburb of Merewether, this newly built and well-designed holiday home is one that draws you in, wraps you up and makes you want to stay for a long, long, while.
This is exactly what the owners dreamt of when they bought the property, a 50s brick home on a flat block – albeit with the intention to knock it down and rebuild as a purpose built investment holiday home, hence the reason they retained the original, single-level living arrangement.
With busy lives and a growing family, the couple delayed the project, renting out the cottage for a while. However, they knew if the concept was to work they needed to create a sanctuary for visiting tourists, professionals and international travellers alike wanting a beachside haven and to experience the best Newcastle’s coastline has to offer.
The couple built the home as if it was their own personal sanctuary, bringing together all they had experienced during their extensive stays around the country and overseas.
A top priority for the couple was that this brand-new residence still had to have the old fashioned beachside holiday home feel, yet be high-end, short-stay accommodation with plenty of character and the latest IT mod cons for the discerning visitor…
