Dream Home Creation

When a home builder decides to build his own dream home you can be assured that all his expertise and technical and practical skills will create an award-winning result – in this case, a multi-award winner.

This country residence won the 2016 MBA Excellence in Building Awards Newcastle “Bathroom of the Year”; the HIA 2016 Custom Built Home ($800,000-$1m) and the 2016 MBA Custom Built Home ($700,000-$1m).

Making his mark on the building industry is Hunter-based, former MBA Newcastle 2011 Young Builder of the Year, Matt Sharpe of Mavid Construction, who built two delightful country cottages on the approach to the leafy suburb of Lorn years ago.

Together with his wife Rebecca they built their own home in a superb location of Bolwarra Heights, moving in twelve months ago.

“Our original plan after buying at auction was mostly a commercial decision to subdivide the acreage into seven lots and then move on again after completion,” explained Matt.

“So we started the journey with a seven-lot subdivision application to council and erected a shed and moved in awaiting council approval. With the coming summer months, with love in the air we married and discovered that we loved the location, due to its convenience as well as its feel and aspect.

Rebecca said, “The day of our wedding, we decided we wanted to retain more land for ourselves, so the project then turned from a commercial venture to a home of our dreams for the foreseeable future.”
