Capes 4 Kids

Capes 4 Kids is the first program of its kind in Australia. It is designed to help children feel as safe, secure and brave as possible while undergoing challenging, often ‘scary’ situations and medical treatments. Between 2014, when the program first started, and the end of 2018, Capes 4 Kids distributed 28,041 super hero capes to children in hospitals. At the core of the Capes 4 Kids program is the simple truth that play is essential for happiness and successful coping. Capes 4 Kids communicate with patients in a different language, emphasising that their feelings are important and that staying positive and strong will have a positive impact on their treatment and recovery. The organisation strives to provide positive role models and to be strong, understanding and supportive in all their messages. They team up with parents and carers in wanting each patient to succeed as much as possible. In March 2019, Capes 4 Kids attempted to set a Guinness World Record for wearing the most capes in one venue. The fundraising event was held in Gosford and while they didn’t quite set a new global benchmark, Capes 4 Kids brought together 624 participants and now holds the Australian record. Monetary donations or suitable fabrics to be made into capes are always highly welcomed.
