Newcastle Family History Society
Newcastle Family History Society (NFHS) is based in the historic Mechanics’ Institute building in Lambton, which is very much in keeping with the function of the Society within the Newcastle community.
The Society has an extensive library, which holds many documents and records unavailable elsewhere. There is also a large computer room with access to a sizeable digital library and many online databases. Workshops are run to help members and visitors learn how best to research their family tree and there are always experienced volunteers available to assist. As part of its commitment to history and family history, frequent day trips operate to such places as Wollombi, Rookwood Cemetery, Parramatta, the State Library, museums and historic buildings. A program of interesting guest speakers is available throughout the year as well as many social and educational activities.
In 2020 the NFHS will host the Conference of the NSW/ACT Association of Family History Societies. You can also visit the large exhibition of Newcastle/ Hunter Valley Female Convict Bonnets at Newcastle Region Library in late July and August this year.
