Ruby Hart announced as winner of the 2019 Carol Duval Memorial Award

The Hunter TAFE Foundation announced the 2019 Carol Duval Memorial Award for Painting winner, granting a deserving student $1,000 in prize money at a ceremony held at TAFE NSW Hunter Street.

Ruby Hart was awarded the prize after being judged by a panel against three other finalists. Miss Hart is studying a Diploma of Visual Arts at TAFE NSW and will graduate later this year.

Attended by more than 40 members of the Hunter business community, students and their families, the event celebrated the recipients’ resilience, determination and commitment to further education.

Miss Hart said she was delighted to have won the award and plans to put the money towards her goals of a career in art.

“I wasn’t expecting to win, I’m really grateful. It’s so worth it, all the hard work. It feels really special and I feel really lucky to have studied at TAFE NSW and to have all the supportive teachers around me helping me out. My experience couldn’t have been better.

“I plan to spend the money on materials to work with and pay my dad back some money for helping me out so much.”

Hunter TAFE Foundation president Gary Webb said, “Over the past 20 years the Hunter TAFE Foundation, through the generosity of our donor partners, has contributed significant financial assistance to local students to assist them with their TAFE NSW studies.”

“The Carol Duval Award gives students a head start on their career in fine arts. A big congratulations to Ruby, she is a deserving recipient.”
