Hunter local launches fantasy book series – and Hollywood has already come knocking

Who knew that as the Editor of Hunter&Coastal Lifestyle Magazine I would get to interview an intergalactic villain, the aspiring author of a brand new fantasy bestseller and Johanna Griggs all on the same day?

On 3 November, Spicers Guest House in Pokolbin saw the official launch of a new six part fantasy series, Almythea, written by Hunter local A.J. Cootes. The first volume published in late September and is already making its way into Amazon’s bestseller lists. A portion of the book’s proceeds will be donated to Beyond Blue. “We are delighted that A.J. is supporting the fight against mental illness”, said Johanna Griggs, board member of Beyond Blue, in her opening speech.

While the series has been twenty years in the making, Hollywood was quick to take notice. With agent Lynn Santer firmly on A.J.’s side, a high powered team has been assembled to bring Almythea to the big screens as soon as possible.  Award winning cinematographer Bruce Logan (Star Wars) and Emmy judge and producer James Ganiere (Rio Vista Universal) believe Almythea has the potential to be the next Star Wars or Game of Thrones. Cliff Simon (best known as Lord Ba’al in Stargate SG1) is rearing to play Grey Paw, a mysterious and rebellious shaman who becomes a mentor for Little Hawk, a young warrior who might be destined to save Almythea from tyrannical overlord The Lost One.
