Layers of warmth and softness
That’s what interior designer Stephanie Rose loves to add to her clients’ homes.
People are spending money on the hard surfaces, like the structure or joinery in a house. But I often see a lack of layering, which is a pity, as it’s such a great way to add personality to a home,” she says. Stephanie opened her homewares store at The Junction in February 2019. Layered Home is a bright and welcoming space and Stephanie loves for customers to just come in, explore and maybe even experiment a bit.
“There is often a bit of resistance when I suggest to clients to go a bit bolder. Now I can use my store to show that colour isn’t scary and how it can be used to give individuality and focus to a room.”

When she is working with clients, she often starts with a piece of art or a rug to draw inspiration and derive colours or textures.
“I also like to work with existing things. I think that’s a wonderful way to keep memories,” she adds. High quality, custom furniture is an important part of Layered Home. Customers can choose between different designs for lounges, bedheads, Roman blinds and even lamp shades, then select their favourite fabric and their perfect piece will be manufactured in Sydney and delivered to their doorstep. “I am not like one of the big homewares retailers,” says Stephanie.
“I love having brands that are different and unique.” She points out beautifully woven African chairs and baskets from Coastal Drift that are literally flying off the shelves. There are well-known Australian brands represented like Satara and In The Sac bedding, as well as niche brands like Utopia cushions and Ashley & Co home fragrances or 3Beaches outdoor fabrics. “They are soft to the touch, yet you could scrub them with bleach if you wanted, the colours don’t fade, and they are mould and stain resistant. Just perfect for the Australian summer,” she says. With a multitude of textures and colours to explore, Layered Home is a space that appeals to all senses. You will find a huge variety of textiles, striking artworks, cushions, handmade ceramics and a great selection of thoughtful and unique gifts.
