Community radio from the mountains to the sea

Community Radio Station, Lake Macquarie FM 97.3 is the result of a dream of Bruce Carty to work in his own radio station. He received a narrowcast licence to broadcast in 1989.

Fast forward to July 2020 and the station launched into the future when it was granted a new licence, allowing the station to broadcast music under an “unrestricted” licence. Previously it was restricted to only broadcasting music that had been produced and released up to 1989.

This opens up many opportunities for local musos to have their music heard, while still allowing presenters to provide the classic hits to the listening audience.

Lake Macquarie FM 97.3 offers a wide variety of music and programming to provide listeners with choice. It covers local community programs, classic hits, and country live performance, with around 30 volunteer presenters across the week. A full program plus presenter profiles can be found on the station’s website www. lakemacquarie.fm. The station can also be found on Facebook and has more than 10,000 followers, an amazing feat for a community radio station.
