Youth Express

Youth Express is a registered charity that has supported young people to engage in education, community and work across the Hunter since 1993. In 2019 more than 6,000 young people were supported, with the help of 2,000+ Hunter businesses that volunteer their time. Youth Express has provided digital content and remote support to young people, educators and community during COVID-19.

  • Express Bites is a series of short video workshops to better prepare young people for the world of work;
  • Deadly People Deadly Stories is a recorded podcast showcasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences and career journeys that led them to where they are today;
  • KauKan is a VTEC provider and supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers find sustainable employment and mentoring.

Existing programs include the coordination of work placements for vocational education and training subjects and school support service activities engaging business and industry with schools and young people through Career Quests and Industry Tours. Links to Learning supports at-risk young people to re-engage in education through a weekly intervention program and Indigenous Advancement Strategy helps young people to engage in education through culture, while SWITCHed On Mentoring assists young people to transition from school to work with purpose.
