Coastal delights on foot

Discover the rich biodiversity and rugged coastline of Lake Macquarie on the new Caves Coastal Hike, the latest offering from Hunter Coast adventure tourism company CoastXP.

Kicking off at Caves Beach, the two-and-a-half hour guided coastal leisure hike will take you for a walk on the wild side through the Wallarah National Park.

Experience the stunning coastal scenery of Lake Macquarie by foot as you explore some of the most iconic and picturesque areas of the national park.

The hike focuses on Aboriginal heritage, local geology, coastal history as well as the flora and fauna native to the park.The peninsula boasts a plethora of natural and man-made points of interest including sea caves, native wildlife and a rugged coastline.

The 8.5km guided hike traverses through a spotted gum woodland, in addition to sand and rocky tracks.

Emphasis is placed on the importance of respecting and conserving our local coastal environment in order to enjoy this area for years to come.

The hike will be led by both Dominic May (CoastXP Founder and Managing Director) and Rachael Scott, a local environmental scientist and wildlife guide. Rachael grew up in Newcastle exploring rock pools, learning to surf, often staring at the horizon in search of whales, she has a degree as a Bachelor of Environmental Biology.

The hike costs $55 per person and includes the guided tour, entry fees into the Wallarah National Park, high-quality digital images of your hike and a complimentary beverage at Caves Coastal Bar and Bungalows, which you’re sure to need to help you cool down and relax once you’re done!

The hike departs from Caves Beach Lookout, above the Caves Beach Surf Life Saving Club and is suitable for participants aged eight years and older.
