Pekarna Bakery

Pekarna is a Czech word which translates to bakery, and that’s just what you’ll find in this cosy café on Brunker Road in Adamstown – loads and loads of mouth-watering European-style pastries that are a feast for the eyes and tastebuds. With humble beginnings at markets across Newcastle, traditional recipes from owner Petra McLoughlin’s family are what make Pekarna Bakery’s offerings wholesome and indulgent.

Baking everything daily in her hole-in-the-wall kitchen, there are savoury or sweet offerings made using locally-sourced ingredients and treasured techniques. Try koláč, puffy pastries with ricotta and fruit fillings such as sour cherry, plum or lemon curd. Cinnamon scrolls are sticky and spicy, lemon ricotta cheesecake is rich and crumbly, but if you’re after something truly indulgent, the choux options with custard and cream fillings are your go-to choice: bee stings, eclairs, caramel windmills and more.

Pekarna is an excellent catering option for functions or parties or that treat to go with your afternoon cuppa.

Open Mon–Fri 6am–2pm, Sat 6.30am–12pm.
