Newcastle: Keep the good times rollin’

Newcastle 50s Rock and Roll Club is a social dance club that was formed in May 1995 by a handful of enthusiastic rock and rollers who wanted to keep 50s music alive in the Newcastle area. Every Tuesday, the group meets at Kahibah Sports Club on 63 Kenibea Avenue, Kahibah, where the regular members teach new members basic rock and roll steps in a social club environment. Dance lessons start at 6pm for beginners and 6.30pm for the intermediate group. After the lessons, social dancing goes to 9pm.

The last Tuesday of each month is a lesson-free night with a local duo, DJ or band so that members can enjoy three hours of social dancing. This also gives new members the chance to practice some of the dance steps they have learnt over the previous weeks. Since the club began, the dance lessons have attracted a strong following with membership totalling around 400.

Regular social dancing events are held, and the group is active in the rock and roll dance scene throughout the region. The club also supports local charities and has donated over $90,000 to organisations in need of funds for the great work they are doing.
