Lake Macquarie: Flavoursome Fridays

Local community organisation, Centre for Hope, has launched Flavoursome Fridays, an opportunity for community members and volunteers to jointly enjoy culinary delights.

“We all know the connection between food and the heart is strong,” said Centre for Hope’s manager Shari Bonnette. A vast array of Persian food was featured in the first event and local resident Michelle Speek said it was a great way to experience the diversity of the region while connecting with people.

“It’s really good to see community events coming back together again. It’s been lacking for so long and it’s good for communities who are a bit more isolated to come together. The food was colourful, tasty and everyone I met was happy and willing to engage.”

Shari added, “It’s important for us to recognise the people that have helped us make this first event possible. We received funding from the City of Newcastle’s Community Support Grant, and our collaborators at The Canopy and the Iranian Community of Newcastle were key to the success of our first Flavoursome Friday.”

Another event featuring Indonesian cuisine has already been held, with more to follow soon. For details of upcoming Flavoursome Fridays follow Centre for Hope on Facebook.
