Popular spirits – The Farmers Wife Distillery opens a new tasting room

Kylie Sepos, distiller and owner of Farmers Wife Gin, recently opened a multi-purpose distillery door, tasting room, café and bar. Seating 250 people, the impressive building took nearly six years to bring to fruition. Kylie commented, “Our gin business took off much faster than we expected and it took so long to get building approvals, that we upscaled our vision.”

Situated on the family’s 117-acre farm at Allworth, the building represents Kylie’s love of the country and features colours, textures and natural materials inspired by the bush surrounds. Set amongst towering gum trees, the use of timber, polished concrete, dark green bar tiles and a huge stone fireplace, give this venue a rustic but modern and distinctly Australian charm.

With four delicious seasonal gins, Kylie was aiming to create a space for gin lovers and to enthuse people about craft distilling. The drinks menu is seriously impressive, offering flights of gin, a wide range of classic and signature gin cocktails, gin spritzers, G&Ts, local Hunter wines as well as non-alcoholic beverage options.

The food menu is all about sharing. “We want friends and families to come together and to connect over some tasty food with beautiful beverages,” Kylie said. There is something for everyone on the extensive menu: from bar snacks and share plates to farmhouse pizzas, all day breakfast options and sweet treats. Grazing boards come loaded with seasonal produce from the local butcher and cheesemaker.

“My parents and grandparents grew up here, as did I,” Kylie explained. “So we wanted somewhere locals could gather and be proud to bring people. So far, the response has been amazing, and we’re booked out most weekends!”

With pet-friendly outdoor tables and an area for kids to play, it’s perfect for family and friends to come together. They also cater for functions and offer a bookable private tasting room.

Farmers Wife is just 45 minutes from Newcastle and open every Wednesday to Sunday 8am – 5pm.
