Native flavours – Kawul’s new Cocktail Bar
Kawul restaurant has long been a local favourite at Calais Estate, but it now has an added attraction and converts to a wine and cocktail bar on the weekends.
The edgy unique range of cocktails incorporates native flavours and estate grown herbs. The 100% local wine list includes the Calais Estate range, local boutique wines as well as spirits, beer, cider and non-alcoholic options.
Kawul’s resident chef has created a range of tasty share plates as a perfect complement for your wine or cocktail. According to owner Katrina Bradley, “Feedback from our customers was that they wanted good food but more casual dining options. Visitors are well serviced with restaurants locally, so we thought we’d try something different.”
The menu incorporates multicultural influences and is vegan friendly and the kitchen staff are happy to cater for dietaries.
Enjoy cauliflower bites with lemon myrtle and beetroot aioli, a smoked chickpea salad with orange, pickled onion, cauliflower and tofu, bush salt and pepper calamari with garlic aioli or Tempura prawns. Add Kawul bush salt meatballs, native seasoned lamb sliders with lettuce, tomato and chilli jam, the crunchiest skin potato chips ever and you have plenty of delicious options.
There are larger plates for those with a voracious appetite and a delicious range of desserts.
Watch those beautiful sunsets from the large wraparound balcony, cocktail in hand with family and friends.
Kawul Bar is open from 5pm Friday and Saturday night. Kawul Restaurant is open Thursday to Monday for breakfast and lunch. kawul.com.au
