Muswellbrook – World class photography
The Australian Photographic Society’s (APS) Mullins Conceptual Photography Prize is a national, $25,000 acquisitive prize that seeks to find Australia’s best conceptual photographic works. In its 2023 iteration, the prize has seen an unprecedented volume and quality of more than 250 submissions.
Founded in 2009, based on a bequest by Barbara Mullins in memory of her late husband Doug, a former President of the Australian Photographic Society (APS), the prize celebrates works that have been “substantially produced by photographic means.” It is being presented by the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre in partnership with the APS with the winning acquisitive work joining the Muswellbrook Shire Art Collection, and a collection of contemporary photographic works acquired through the Muswellbrook Photographic Award (1987-2014).
“The exhibition of prize winners and finalists is stunning in its diversity and quality. It is truly world class,” said Roger Skinner, longtime organiser of the Muswellbrook Photographic Award.
Chris Bowes took out top honours with ‘Sun Kissed #1, #2, #3, #4’. Katrina Crook (left) with ‘Untitled #1 (in Silence)’ and Melanie Cobham (right) with ‘The Colony Reclaims the Land’ received recognition as Highly Commended.
