Newcastle – Milestone moments

Meet Lucy and Lenny, twins living with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and patients of John Hunter Children’s Hospital’s CF Clinic.
CF is a progressive genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections, and there is currently no cure.
Recently, the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved Trikafta for children 6-11 years of age, offering a life-changing treatment option that helps minimise the long-term effects of CF.
In May, the CF multidisciplinary team held its first Trikafta clinic, where Lucy and Lenny received their first dose.
“It’s an exciting milestone for our CF families and the team. While it may not be a cure, it’s the next best thing. It helps improve breathing and weight gain and reduces lung infections,” said Clinical Scientist Lauren Platt.
