Koala Haven – Visit the cuddlies
Head to the Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary these school holidays to see koalas in a natural, idyllic bushland setting. Set up in partnership with Port Stephens Council and Port Stephens Koala Hospital, the sanctuary offers first-class care for sick, injured and orphaned koalas so they can eventually be returned into the wild.
Visit the state-of-the-art koala hospital with its intensive care unit, treatment rooms and holding pens. Through the viewing windows, you may even get a glimpse of veterinary staff carrying out examinations and administering treatments.
The Sanctuary Story Walk offers an immersive educational experience through the koala habitat, while the Sanctuary SKYwalk and elevated viewing platform give a unique treetop perspective into the life of these iconic but threatened animals.
During the school holidays, educational officers will host Sanctuary Talks on the plights affecting koalas and give helpful tips on how we can all help to ensure their long term their survival in the wild.
Worked up an appetite? The Fat Possum Café offers a delicious menu of grab ‘n go eats and treats, of barista-made coffees and quality souvenirs.
You can now even spend the night onsite in a four star glamping tent and wake up with the koalas. Now, what could be more memorable than that?
Open daily from 9am to 5pm during school holidays. For more info go to portstephenskoalasanctuary.com.au and check the Sanctuary’s social media for dates and times of Sanctuary Talks.
