Superfood your summer!
It’s summertime and the weather is fine, and there’s no better time to get on the açai bowl bandwagon.
Açai bowls have become extremely popular over the past few years making them a refreshing staple on café menus everywhere.
With a thick frozen açai base (made from the Brazilian superfood açai berry), açai bowls are usually topped with toasted granola, fruit, coconut flakes and cacao nibs. You can also get options with Nutella, peanut butter, or Oreos if you like things a little sweeter!
Whether it’s for breakfast, brunch or lunch, an açai bowl is the ultimate healthy treat in those warm summer months. Here’s where you can enjoy a tasty (and nutritious) açai bowl as the weather is heating up.
Villa Lane
A visit to Redhead wouldn’t be complete without popping into Villa Lane for a bit of homewares retail therapy and a refreshing açai bowl. There are four varieties to choose from on the menu, and they even come in half size servings which is just perfect if you’re after something a little lighter on your way to the beach.

Berry Bros
Tucked away behind Darby Raj in Cooks Hill’s Darby Street, Berry Bros serves up a mouth-watering range of açai bowls to dine in or take away. With popular options named after local beaches (Dixon Beach, Bar Beach, Merewether, and Nobby to name a few), there’s something on the menu for everyone. If you can’t go past an option that involves Nutella, the DLR bowl topped with banana, strawberries, coconut, chocolate flakes and Nutella is an easy choice.

Akuna
Top or tail your beach day with a visit to Akuna Café in the backstreets of Merewether. While the menu is full of deliciously healthy options, choosing between their Moon, Ocean, Paradise, Sweet As and Paradise açai bowl varieties is a mouthwatering challenge. This chilled and friendly café is just a short walk to the beach so the perfect pit stop for a refreshing treat on a hot summer’s day.
40 Patrick Street, Merewether
Convoy Commune
It’s one of Merewether’s trendiest cafes, so it should be no surprise Convoy Commune has a healthy dose of açai bowl options on the menu. Swing by on your way home from the beach to enjoy your açai fix served in a coconut bowl. The Tropical version comes with lemon curd and goji berries, or indulge with Chocolate – think mini Oreos and Nutella. Special mention for their house roasted maple and pecan granola which takes the açai bowl experience to the next level.

Mama P
Mama P in Charlestown has a healthy reputation for real food with quality ingredients, so of course the menu features açai options in smoothie or bowl form. Pull up a seat at this popular café to enjoy an açai bowl that is so pretty, it looks like a desert!
2/142 Pacific Highway, Charlestown
Bluedoor
The motto at Blue Door is simple food done well, and their açai bowls are no exception. Whether you’re visiting one of the city cafes at Honeysuckle or Hamilton, or pulling up a stool with ocean views at Merewether Beach, an açai bowl at Blue Door is always a good idea. Keep it simple with the Original, or go all out with more decadent options like the Salted Caramel or Peanut Butter Crunch.
