‘Remembering Ruby’

Through some of their darkest days, Nick and Kim have found strength and are giving back to sick children and their families in memory of their daughter, Ruby Mae.

Ruby Mae’s Wish is a charity founded by her parents after Ruby lost her battle with haemolytic uremic syndrome. Kim says the charity aims to give back to those who cared for Ruby when she was sick and to help families experiencing similar situations.

Kim describes Ruby as someone who left an impression on everyone she met, with her big smile and bubbly personality.

“We’re motivated to honour our daughter by giving back to the healthcare system that tried everything they could to help Ruby when she needed it the most,” said Kim.

The paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at John Hunter Children’s Hospital, hosted Nick and Kim for a morning tea to say thank you as they returned to the PICU, to donate equipment and family packs – items they found helpful throughout their hospital stay.
