Sydney Brewery expands

Sydney Brewery is onsite at Hunter Valley Rydges Hotel (previously Hunter Valley Crown Plaza) and operates in conjunction with the popular Lovedale Bar and Grill, offering their extensive range of craft beers from “vat to tap”.

Their highly awarded small batch beers include a core range of lagers and pale ales to rich porters, plus, a great rotating selection of limited release seasonal beers, like Smooth Talker Porter, or Blue Swimmer Pale Ale. All brews are available by the can, glass, tasting paddle or for takeaway. You can also book a brewery tour for $20. Stay for lunch and indulge in dishes infused with their beers, like the delicious dark lager braised beef cheeks or beef ragout slow cooked in an IPA.

Meanwhile behind the scenes over the past 10 years, owner Jerry Schwartz and friend John Rasco (who are both doctors) have been busy in a labour of love to create a premium whiskey – The Two Doctors. Starting with the best malted barley from the dozens readily available at the Brewhouse, the single cask, single malt whiskey is hand-crafted from scratch and distilled on site.

Released after six years in an American oak old port cask with “distillers’ strength”, it has a complex bouquet of cumquat, citrus peel, toffee, nuts, spicy oak and a powerful long-lasting finish. You can try a nip or buy a bottle at Lovedale Bar and Grill.
