Consumers make a difference

Calvary Mater Newcastle is calling on interest members of the community to join its Consumer Register.

This is a group of past and present patients, carers or community members who are eager to get involved with the hospital and ensure consumer feedback and opinions are well- represented.

The register is based on the idea that the community plays an integral role in improving quality of care, and their input and contribution helps to shape the services provided.

The Mater’s Director of Mission and Integration, Kellie Goldsworthy, explained that there are numerous areas consumers can get involved in.

“Our consumers provide invaluable insights and advice across a range of projects, depending on the individual’s interests, skills and time,” she said.

“From reviewing patient brochures and fact sheets and participating in surveys and focus groups, to sharing experiences from our hospital, sitting on interview panels for on-boarding of staff and joining a committee – there is something for everyone.”

The Consumer Register is flexible and participation is voluntary. Consumers can accept or decline any offer made by the hospital to participate.
