Textile artists share, learn and network

Newcastle Creative Embroiderers and Textile Artists Inc (NCEATA) brings together textile artists of all skill levels from the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney regions to share, learn and network.

They learn and practice a wide range of techniques to produce fine art pieces, wearable art and enjoy stitching together.

Formed over 40 years ago, NCEATA members are a vibrant, inclusive and actively supportive group who share expertise, resources and friendship. They hold 2 meetings/workshops each month creating work in all types of fibres, threads and textiles including embroidery, machine embellishing, braiding, dyeing, fabric painting, wet and dry felting, sewing, beading and quilting. At each meeting there is an opportunity to share current work.

Each year they hold an exhibition of work based around a theme, which members interpret and respond to creatively. Their latest exhibition was called “On The Edge” and was held at Belmont Library. The next exhibition is entitled ‘Reflections’.

If you are interested in having a hands-on experience to see if joining NCEATA is right for you, there is a “Textile Tasters” session on Saturday 18 May from 1pm – 4pm. This has several techniques in one workshop for you to try.

NCEATA meets in Adamstown on the first Monday (10am-1pm) and the third Saturday (1pm- 4pm) of the month. For further information please contact Kate Highland secretary@nceata.org or visit nceata.org.
