A century-old legacy
In the heart of New South Wales, the Abermain Eisteddfod stands as a testament to the enduring power of the performing arts. Established circa 1917, it is the longest-running eisteddfod of its kind in NSW, and the only one still running within the Cessnock local government area. By 1965, it had grown to rival even the Sydney.
Eisteddfod in size and prestige. The Eisteddfod was founded by the Methodist Church, and today it remains an integral part of the Abermain community’s culture, deeply rooted in the rich cultural tapestry of the Hunter Valley region.
For generations, the Abermain Eisteddfod has served as a stepping stone for countless young performers, nurturing talent and fostering a love for the performing arts. Many of today’s top performers honed their skills on this iconic stage, a testament to its transformative power.
Abermain Eisteddfod stands as a beacon of progress and unity, where diverse talents converge to advance society through the arts. It is rooted in the immigrant miners’ cultural contributions to the Coalfields, reflecting the rich diversity of the community.
This year, the Eisteddfod is excited to announce that the tiny tots and much younger ages of the competition will continue to be held in the Abermain Plaza Hall, providing a welcoming and intimate setting for the young performers.
Meanwhile, the older competitors and troupe competitions will take place at the prestigious Performance Art Culture Cessnock (PACC), offering a grand stage for seasoned performers to showcase their talents. Abermain Eisteddfod invites everyone to come and witness the magic and experience the passion, talent, and dedication of the performers as they take to the stage.
