A little piece of the Hamptons in Point Frederick

The O’Shea’s had a clear vision for their coastal, Hamptons-inspired new build in Point Frederick with views out to Brisbane Water.
They have owned the prime parcel of land on the Central Coast since they purchased an original 1940s double brick home on it in 2012.

“The home was in need of a complete renovation, but was on a large 1600 square metre block. We finished the extension and renovation in 2014 and soon after began the process of subdivision,” homeowner Annie O’Shea explained.

“Then we sold our front home to our aging parents and started building our new home in 2021 during the pandemic. We love the privacy that a battle axe block provides. It’s so quiet and relaxing”.

The O’Shea’s chose Sanctuary New Homes to design and build their stunning new four bedroom, three bathroom home.

“Our finished home is very close to what we envisioned during the design process. We wanted an open-plan coastal style home, that was all about the inside outside flow,” Annie said.
Annie was heavily involved in the design process, something Amanda Palmer from Sanctuary New Homes really valued.

“You always get a fantastic design when the clients are working with you all the way and you’re supporting each other,” Amanda said.

From the outset, the O’Shea’s dreamt of having a beautiful front facade they could enjoy coming home to each day. The elegant Hamptons-inspired exterior was brought to life with James Hardie’s white, coastal-style Linea weatherboards, a grand white door framed by glass palings and a charming wrap around verandah. The crisp white home pops against a drought hardy succulent garden which Annie landscaped herself. Annie said she chose lots of variations of green to break up the whiteness of the house.

Step inside the home and you’re met with a stylish coastal feel from the white VJ Boards to the oak coloured floorboards from Australian Select Timbers’ Coastline Collection.

“The interior of our home is very calming with a neutral colour selection,” Annie smiled.

You’re also greeted by a striking coconut shell pendant light delicately made from multiple layers of small natural coconut shell pieces; a piece Annie sourced herself from luxe coastal homewares store Bisque Traders in Bangalow. Several Bisque Traders pendant lighting pieces feature throughout the home.

“The one over the dining table is clay over rattan and the others are a mixture of bamboo and rattan,” Annie said.

As well as being beautiful to look at, the O’Shea’s needed their home to be functional and flow naturally to suit their family. The white, open plan kitchen with a butler’s pantry by Artform Kitchens has naturally become a place for the family to gather. A long window takes the place of a traditional splashback ensuring the space is bathed in natural light. The island bench doubles as a breakfast bar with a dining table feel to it and will often attract the whole family around it.

“We really like the kitchen and the butler’s pantry. The kitchen is beautiful and functional. Its close proximity to the pool area means that you can be cooking and watching the kids in the pool,” Annie said.

The kitchen opens straight out onto the Spotted Gum hardwood deck with a built-in bbq area and pool.

“The thing we love most about our home is the way the outside is easily accessible, from the pool area to the backyard to the top deck,” Anne smiled.

When it came to designing the upstairs level of the home, Annie was also heavily involved in the design process.

The main bathroom features a beautiful arched mirror and a soft, neutral colour palette. The large windows allow plenty of light to pour through and frameless shower screens and long grates add to the spacious and luxurious feel of the bathroom. Nearby the master bedroom takes full advantage of those expansive views out over Brisbane Water.

Amanda said Sanctuary New Homes was delighted that they could “tick all the boxes” for the O’Sheas with the cleverly designed Hamptons-style home that is filled with luxe coastal charm. The home has made such an impact that it has been accepted into the HIA Awards with the finalists to be announced shortly.
