Hunter Volunteer of the Year: Jill Stuart

Kahibah local Jill Stuart was crowned Hunter Volunteer of the Year for her pioneering support and therapy services for people living with Cerebral Palsy in the region. Her tireless work over the past 60 years has greatly improved access to necessary services for those living with a disability.

Jill assisted in the establishment of a Cerebral Palsy Alliance (CPA) branch in the area, creating a family-focused and supportive community system. Titled ‘The Stuart Centre’, the facility in Croudace Bay is CPA’s longest-running therapy centre, currently supporting more than 350 clients and their families.

The Centre for Volunteering CEO Gemma Rygate said Ms Stuart was a deserving winner. “These awards acknowledge the exceptional effort of volunteers across the Hunter,” Ms Rygate said. “Whether it’s in the local sports club, in health care, education and cultural centres, legal support or emergency response, they are essential for the ongoing health and viability of local communities. And, Jill fits the bill perfectly.” She was awarded at a special ceremony held on October 4.
