NSW’s first accessible skate bowl in Newy
Paralympian Paul Nunnari will be the first to “drop in” on Newcastle’s pioneering inclusive infrastructure. The new wheelchair-accessible skate bowl comes under a $20,000 boost from the City of Newcastle (CN) for local all-encompassing sports events. The funds will allow for community-based organisations and recreation providers to deliver activities aimed at increasing the participation of people with a disability in sport.
Mr Nunnari showcased the bowl’s use in a “come and see” wheelchair motorcross demonstration, promoting the physical and social benefits of sport involvement and highlighting the importance of inclusive sports facilities. It’ll also display how wheelchair users can engage with the skate bowl and terrain park at South Newcastle Beach delivered through the CN’s Bathers Way project.
“This skate bowl is more than just a facility, it’s a space where everyone has dignified, equitable access and can thrive and have fun,” Mr Nunnari said. But this revolutionary infrastructure is not the only new development we will see locally. Other sports will also be made accessible to the greater community with the upcoming City of Newcastle grants including water polo, surfing and lawn bowls.
