Opulence reimagined at McGuigan House
The Hunter Valley icon that’s starting a whole new life.
From the very first moment Meg and Luke Berry set eyes on McGuigan House it was love at first sight. The Hunter Valley property, set on 10 acres with sweeping views of the Brokenback Mountain Ranges, captured both their hearts and imaginations.
But it was a chance discussion over wine that sent the newlyweds and parents to two-year-old Banjo on a journey towards this iconic Hunter Valley home.
“It’s a funny story,” laughs property developer Luke.
“I’ve been very blessed to have the McGuigan family as clients for some time and it was over lunch with Lisa Mcguigan when I mentioned we were looking to buy or build a property in the Hunter Valley.
“Before I knew it, Lisa had organised lunch with her dad Brian.”
It was during this meal with winemaking legend Brian McGuigan that Meg and Luke’s future was decided; they purchased Brian’s family estate Hunter Ridge with a handshake, and the couple’s quest for a piece of the Hunter Valley was over. But their journey with this remarkable property, now named McGuigan House, was just beginning.
“As soon as we turned onto the long gravel driveway, we knew that it was ours. It just drew us in. The cleverly designed spaces flow from one to the other; from the living room to the library and into the conservatory and all the while it sits so perfectly in the established vines and manicured gardens.
“We also enjoyed a great connection with Brian and his wife Fay, and we wanted to continue their legacy and build on what they’ve spent decades creating. They continue to be involved in the project today.”
Meg and Luke celebrated their wedding in the expansive grounds of McGuigan House earlier this year as the new owners. They knew that they wanted other couples and families to experience the magic of the property’s stunning vineyard and landscaped gardens and began to plan the property’s future as a luxury event space.
