California dreaming

This incredible New Lambton home is a stylish yet welcoming oasis for family and friends to gather.

Growing up in the leafy suburb of New Lambton, Archie Moroney was very familiar with the spectacular homes and views from Carrington Parade.

“As a child I would admire the street and think about how I would love to live here,” Archie the managing director of Buildingwise Construction recalls.

“In 2018, the corner house was on the market and finally within budget and so my long-held dream came true!”

Archie and his wife Danielle, the building development manager at Buildingwise Construction, purchased the prime New Lambton block ready to build their dream home.

The couple worked with the team at Buildingwise Construction and Space Design Architecture (SDA) to bring their unique vision to life.

Civil works began in 2023 and after just 18 months, Archie, Danielle and children Angus and Asha moved in on 1 November 2024.

“We always had a clear idea of what we wanted,” Archie says of their plans for their four-bed, four-bath house.

“We wanted it to be accessible, easy to maintain and most importantly designed to host family and friends.

“The view is iconic, but something we both love is how we have different ‘zones’ to suit the family.

“The kids love the pool and will swim all day, play on the tiered levels of grass or head upstairs to their rumpus room.

“For the adults we’ve got a sports bar style set up with pizza oven adjacent to the pool, as well as a fire pit, which is perfect when friends come over.”

Archie and Danielle were inspired by American modernist architecture and wanted their New Lambton home to have a California-style vibe that suited the sun-drenched block.

“I put together a Pinterest board of the designs we loved to help the architects get to know us,” Danielle says.

“This really helped to inform the colours and overall style and it was such an enjoyable project to work on.”

It was important to the couple that all materials were of a high quality and Australian made where possible.

“The marble, timber, cladding, air conditioning units and fireplace are all Australian made as we wanted to support local suppliers and materials.”

The established plants on the 1100-square-metre block – including the forty-year-old olive trees – were sourced locally for their durability and style to suit the home’s Californian aesthetic.
