Designed to shine
Lighting is more than just a practical necessity in a home, it’s a design feature that brings architecture, materials, and ambience to life.
A well-lit home balances functionality and aesthetics, creating spaces that are both inviting and efficient. This synergy is evident at The Chatham, a beautiful display property by Yarrum Designer Homes in Hamilton North. Alstra Lighting played a pivotal role in crafting a lighting scheme to highlight the home’s luxurious and contemporary feel.
While the overall vision for the home was a collaboration with Yarrum Designer Homes, the experts from Alstra Lighting ensured that each space was lit appropriately to show clients how to enhance both function and ambience.

BALANCING BRIGHTNESS AND WARMTH
The kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the home, and lighting in this space needs to be both practical and atmospheric. In The Chatham home, Alstra Lighting installed a combination of LED strip lighting, pendant lights, and downlights to achieve a ‘layered’ lighting effect.
“The goal was to provide ample task lighting for when you are preparing a meal, while also allowing for softer, ambient options when the space isn’t being actively used,”
— Joel Grainger, Managing Director of Alstra Lighting
He further explained, “The different types of lighting are controlled by separate light switches to enable this layered effect.”

SETTING A MOOD
One of the standout features of the display home is the striking pendant light suspended in the double-height void space. Visible from the street, this statement piece was chosen by the team to create a bold visual impact, both day and night.
“It’s all about first impressions,” Joel explained. “The large and spectacular pendant light acts almost like an art piece—it draws the eye and showcases the home’s elegance.”
WHERE PRACTICALITY MEETS LUXURY
Bathrooms require careful lighting considerations, not just for style but for functionality and safety.
“Lighting around mirrors is essential for daily grooming tasks like shaving or makeup application,”
— Kylie Cork, Manager at Alstra Lighting
She added, “We’re also seeing a growing trend in LED strip lighting under vanities, often linked to motion sensors.”
