Audrey Wilkinson Winemaker’s Selection Malbec 2017

Since 2004 the Agnew Family have developed a strong collection of heritage Hunter brands that also includes Poole’s Rock and Cockfighter’s Ghost. Nestled in the foothills of the Brokenback Range, Audrey Wilkinson is one of the most highly rated cellar doors in the Valley, named after a pioneering local winemaker from the 1860s. While Malbec was traditionally a lesser variety of Bordeaux, it is now pretty well the national grape of Argentina, as well as the principal variety used in reds from Cahors in SW France. This rich, fragrant wine comes from a standout year and features lashings of cherry, chocolate and spice, with soft tannins that make it rather too easy to enjoy in its youth, though it will mature well over the next 5-10 years.
